Welcome New Member, Chuck Prather

The Birchwood owner, Chuck Prather, chose The Birchwood name to honor his father, who once developed a neighborhood in Hillsborough County by the same name.

The Birchwood was originally constructed in 1924 as the Lantern Lane Apartments and the only apartments along Beach Drive facing the waters of Tampa Bay. The Spanish Mission-style building, listed in the National Registry of Historic Places, underwent a renovation of historically accurate dimensions with the addition of two floors to then become The Birchwood as you see it today.  One of The Birchwood’s more modern yet notable features is a 12-by-24-foot mural of a birch forest on the southern exterior wall.

Forbes boasts The Birchwood Inn as “The place to stay” when visiting St. Petersburg. With only 18 rooms, the boutique Inn provides a quaint yet modern stay in the heart of the waterfront district in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida. The Birchwood Inn maintains a bed and breakfast feel while offering world-class dining and still keeping you in the heart of the local shopping, art and nightlife scene.
